Winter depression. How to overcome it?

This winter has been generous with cloudy, inclement days. In the cold years, people become especially prone to depression. In fact, it’s not so easy to smile and keep up spirits when a heavy, gray sky is hanging over your head, and prickly snow is falling down your neck.
But you can try to resist the blues. How to do this — read this article.

A few “can’t”

What do people do most often when faced with stress or apathy? As a rule, they go to the refrigerator and jam the negative accumulated inside. This is not the best way to “save” from depression, because overeating guarantees a set of extra pounds. It is unlikely that your mood will improve if one day, looking at your reflection in the mirror, you notice a rounded belly and sides.

At the first signs of depression, it is not recommended to surround yourself with those things or factors that can spoil your mood. Try not to watch movies with a sad ending, not to listen to sad music.

The gray-black color scheme in the wardrobe will not be superfluous to dilute with bright spots. It is not necessary to buy a lot of new things for this. A few colored scarves, for example, will not cause significant damage to your budget, but they will greatly contribute to a positive mood.

And a lot of “can”

While there is still snow on the street, try not to miss the opportunity to go skiing. And if for some reason it does not work out to stand on them, you should not neglect any other physical activity. It is not necessary to spend half a day in the gym, hoping to crush all your sad thoughts with the weight of the barbell. A little jog (or just a walk in a light frost) will be quite enough. And if the weather still does not allow you to go outside, do exercises at home. Physical activity will make you feel more cheerful and energetic.

Indulge yourself with various goodies. But only sometimes. Say, a couple of times a week. It is not worth abusing chocolate and other delicacies, but the fact that on a weekend you allow yourself to eat your favorite cake, washing it down with delicious coffee with cream, you will not get fat. But a smile will definitely appear on your face. Do not forget about fruits. If you are not allergic to citrus fruits, include them in your Diet. Orange and yellow foods are excellent helpers in overcoming depression, because they contribute to the production of serotonin — the so-called “hormone of joy”. It will not hurt to take vitamins A and E in capsules (they are an oily liquid in a gelatin shell).

If your depression is caused by fatigue (whether physical or emotional) – allow yourself to relax a little with a certain frequency (for example, on Saturday evening). At this time, listen to your favorite music, take a bath with fragrant foam or go for a walk in a beautiful park. If you are one of those for whom the best vacation is communication – spend time with family or friends, talk on the phone with relatives. In the process of a leisurely conversation, your problems and worries will gradually dissipate.

Surround yourself with what causes you positive emotions. It can be anything from beautiful indoor flowers to posters with cats hanging on the walls. By creating such a positive “background” for yourself, it will be easier for you to cope with despondency.

Fighting depression is not an easy task even for incorrigible optimists. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct such a struggle wisely. Going to bed and waking up at the same time, leaving a few hours to do your hobby and being attentive to your appearance, you can avoid winter blues and meet spring with a cheerful smile.
