There was a young, successful billionaire Richard Branson and everything was in order in his life.
But one day Richard got bored, and he came up with a great idea — to buy some island. Well said – done! So Richard Branson got his own island.
History is silent on how much the 28-year-old rich man bought the uninhabited Necker Island, which is part of the archipelago of the British Virgin Islands, but the deal took place.
In order for the newly-made owner not to be sad at all, the contract of sale prudently indicated the condition of the transaction – the owner must build an elite resort on the island…
***
The billionaire willingly undertook the construction of a resort town. Rare tree species were brought from the Amazon, local stone was mined, and soon a Balinese-style mansion appeared on a desert island.
The villa is located on a hill, with ten luxurious bedrooms offering magnificent views of the open sea. Antique and bamboo furniture, all kinds of decorative elements, works of art – there was plenty of all this in the mansion.
In addition to the villa, swimming pools, tennis courts, two private beaches were built on the island. A brilliant chef cooks in the kitchen, and 60 staff members serve guests and visitors. I think it’s not necessary to say that a mere mortal cannot afford to rest on the island.
But on August 22, 2011, the irreparable happened – a luxury villa burned down as a result of a lightning strike during the storm “Irene”. I’m afraid to imagine what a person feels when $70 million suddenly disappears from him, it was at this cost that the mansion was valued at that time…
Perhaps you think that the projectile does not hit the funnel twice? Nothing like that…
After the complete restoration of the villa, the “island of bad luck” was waiting for a new test. Almost all buildings and vegetation were destroyed in September 2017 by Hurricane Irma.
Of course, you can only sympathize with the owner of the island…
There are the largest number of active volcanoes here! Great monuments of ancient civilizations that have survived to the present day, and two great oceans — the Indian and the Pacific. This is a unique country Indonesia. Oleg, an experienced traveler with eight years of travel experience, shares his independent journey through Indonesia to the island of Java.
– Let’s get acquainted)
– Hello everyone! My name is Oleg. I have been traveling for the 8th year. The direction is Southeast Asia. He visited almost all countries of this region: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines. I have visited Ethiopia and North Korea outside the region. In Russia: on Lake Baikal, Kamchatka and the Far East. In addition to traveling, I am engaged in laying and compiling routes, tracking, and information support. I am developing new projects on the topic of author’s training tours to teach the skills of independent travel in practice.
— What is the uniqueness of Indonesia?
Well, first of all, it’s just INDONESIA — the most, most, most… the largest island state and the largest Muslim country in the world. There are the largest number of active volcanoes here!
A country where there is no alcohol, in principle.
Two great oceans meet off the coast of Indonesia — the Indian and the Pacific.
There are about 350 nationalities in the country who speak 700 languages.
There is the only place in Sumatra where you can see orangutans in the wild. And temples like Borobudur and Prambanan?! Along with Khmer Angkor, these are great monuments of ancient civilizations that have survived to the present day.
In general, I don’t have enough space and time to tell you about all the features and uniqueness of this country! I deliberately missed the island of Bali, because it is such a “tourist hostel” that has nothing to do with the real Indonesia.
– Oleg, how many days did your itinerary in Indonesia take?
— The route was not very difficult (by the way, I inserted it into my “Javanese Tour”) and long, because it was part of a trip to 4 countries (Thailand-Myanmar-Malaysia and Indonesia).
It took me 10 days to get acquainted with the capital of the country — Jakarta, fly across Java to the cultural capital of Jogju (Yogyakarta), visit the famous temples of Borobudur and Prambanan, climb Mount Merapi volcano, and descend into the Jomblang Cave.
— How to get to Indonesia on a budget (from Moscow)?
– Well, it’s budget to get there, it’s best to take a flight to Jakarta. There are no direct flights. I usually fly on Arab airlines with transfers in the Emirates or the Bahraini Gulf Air Airline. The price is about about $450.
— What to see in Jakarta?
— There is a misconception that there is nothing to see in Jakarta at all. And that it should be used only as a transit springboard. This is not quite true. Even, not at all. Two days will be enough for you to: see Batavia Square and the old port on the coast of the Java Sea, Chinatown and the Istiklal Mosque, art alleys and huge bazaars, the national Park with the Independence Monument, and many museums and parks. And the capital’s shopping will exceed all your expectations — I have not seen such low prices anywhere in Southeast Asia.
— What is the island of Java remembered for?
— To tell the truth, I went to Java, only because of one thing – the Borobudur temple! It was only later that I was greatly impressed by the ascent to the Merapi volcano and the Jomblang cave. I remember the two-story Yogyakarta market, saturated with the pungent smell of spices, where there was not a single tourist except me, and where I bought a local tea (100 packs) to the brim.
The Javanese themselves are kind and sympathetic people (I’m not talking about tourist places where, as in all of Asia, beggars and gopnik breed), always ready to help.
— Have you met the dawn at Borobudur Temple? Tell me about this majestic place.
– Unfortunately, I was in Java in winter, and the weather did not allow me to meet the dawn (cloud cover), but the temple itself impressed me! This is a place of POWER, and not only spiritual. There is a rush of something like cheerfulness in the whole body. I experienced this only in Cambodian Angkor! In short, it is impossible to describe it — better watch my videos in VK, everything is there in detail and clearly.
— What is the peculiarity of the Jomblang cave?
– Well, there are a lot of features. These are vertical caves, and you can only go down there with insurance. The depth is 60 meters. Having passed underground at this depth, you come out to another “well”, and here the most important miracle of this cave is waiting for you — this is a huge column of sunlight that falls from a great height into a dark well. An unforgettable sight!
– Oleg, tell us about climbing the active Volcano Merapi.
– The volcano is located about 20 kilometers from Yogyakarta. There are several climbing routes, and it is best to have a pedestrian navigator if you are going to make the ascent yourself.
I was climbing from the blind side of the village of Selo. The ascent to Mount Merapi began at one o’clock in the morning in order to have time to meet the dawn at the crater. But our hopes (mine and two other Singaporeans) were blown away by a cloud of sulfur gases, the wind changed, and we had to “quickly” leave.
Equipment:
tracking shoes
leggings
fleece jacket (it’s pretty cool at altitude)
windbreaker
track sticks
2 liters of water
energy bars
The ascent lasted 4.5 hours and met all expectations — the views from the volcano are fascinating! We went down 3.5 hours. This track impressed me so much that I quit nicotine and have not smoked for 3 years now. I have all the videos in my VK and YouTube channel.
– Tell us about the amazing Prambanan temple complex.
– The temples of Prambanan can be reached by train or public transport – 18 kilometers from the center. I was struck, as in Borobudur, by the very fine stone carving and architecture of the buildings! It is difficult to tell something specifically, you need to see it with your own eyes.
— Indonesians – what are they like?)
– The Javanese themselves are kind and sympathetic people who are always ready to help (I’m not talking about tourist places where, as in all of Asia, beggars and gopnik breed). They are more “educated and decent” or something. It seems to me that religion plays a big role here — Islam. And they don’t drink alcohol! I saw the first country where there is not even beer on sale!
— How much does a trip to Indonesia on the Jakarta-Yogyakarta route cost?
— I will give you the budget calculation for my “Javanese Tour”.
Training tour dates in Indonesia:
From 11 to 25 June 2019
From 13 to 27 August 2019
Meeting at Jakarta Airport, Soekarno Hatta — June 11, August 13
The cost of the tour itself is $ 520 .
The cost of the route in Indonesia for expenses per person:
Transfer along the route — $ 200, including transfer to Merapi
Excursions — $ 142
Flight Jakarta-Jogja — $ 76, or transfer by train $ 34
Accommodation and breakfast — $ 325
Guide services — $ 50
In total, an average of $ 800 per person for the entire tour
Add here another $100 for the bazaars and shops of Jakarta and Joggi.
– Oleg, your wishes to tourists going on a trip to Indonesia)
The most optimal time to travel in Indonesia is summer! Because humidity decreases and heat is tolerated more easily than in winter.
US dollars are in use.
Take alcohol with you — there is no alcohol here (except Bali). Although I do not advise drinking (this is not Turkey) — they will not understand!
This is not a strict Islam, but a democratic one, but women still should not shine their charms.
The visa opens automatically upon arrival for 30 days.
Prices are the cheapest in Southeast Asia – a subjective opinion.
